Presently the Easternmost segment to be developed on the proposed Concord-Lake Sunapee Rail Trail, the two-and-a-half mile segment between Fisherville Road and the Contoocook River offers a hardpack trail through woodland north of Concord.

Beginning at a well-appointed trailhead with parking and a cycle fixit station, the new wide, gravel paved surface makes walking or riding the first mile a breeze. Beyond this the trail narrows and continues on a natural hardpack surface all the way to Carter Hill Road to the West, with a few small rocks towards the end.

This trail offers forest views almost exclusively, though we'd recommend continuing North on Carter Hill Road just a short distance to reach the Contoocook River. Here we checked out the canoe rental store on the banks of the river and also explored an overgrown section of mostly inaccessible railbed on the O'Reilly Fleetham Trail which features an excellent riverside trail. From here, the abutments of the old railroad bridge spanning the river are clearly visible. Trailspotting has a guide to all publicly accessible sections of the Concord-Lake Sunapee Rail Trail project linked at the bottom of this page.

Trail Conditions: A mostly hardpack surface with occasional mud. The easternmost 0.8 mile section features a smooth hardpack gravel surface. Trail has minimal gradient.

To the left of the bicycle, there is a red bike repair station equipped with tools and a pump. Behind the bicycle, there is a wooden information board with a shingled roof, displaying maps, notices, and other information about the trail. The background features a grassy area, a fence, and trees, indicating a rural setting.
