Combined, Loverens Trail and the Cedar Swamp Boardwalk make for a perfect meandering woodland walk that's popular with hikers, naturalists, fishing enthusiasts and foragers alike. Road noise from the adjacent Route 9 decreases as you progress along the soft pine-needle carpeted trail into the woods, and it is also initially drowned out by the rushing water from the North Branch River as it negotiates a section constrained by foundations and structures that remain despite the removal of the old Loverens Mill.

The first stop on the trail after the mill is a short boardwalk spur leading into a mossy wetland that featuring a grove of Atlantic white cedar trees that are rare in New Hampshire. The Nature Conservancy have preserved this spot, on which cedars have been growing for more than 4,000 years. Tread carefully as you stick to the trail however, because although the boardwalk appears robust we encountered some weak sections that surprised us.

Upon reaching the loop section of the trail we took a counter-clockwise direction that leads deeper into the woods, and enjoyed spotting the many different species of fungi sprouting out of the forest floor. Continuing along the route leads to several pond and river viewpoints, each very different with something to offer the onlooker.

The image shows a small waterfall or rapid flowing through rocky terrain surrounded by lush greenery. The water appears frothy and white as it cascades over the rocks, indicating swift movement. The trees surrounding the water are full of leaves, suggesting the season is either spring or summer. The sky is partially visible through the canopy of leaves and appears to be clear.

The image is a triptych of three photographs featuring mushrooms in their natural forest environment. The left photo shows a group of bright red mushrooms with slender stems and caps, emerging from the forest floor covered with brown leaves. The center photo captures two yellow mushrooms with conical caps, also amidst a bed of dry leaves and twigs. The right photo presents a close-up view of a single mushroom from below, highlighting its white gills; this mushroom has a large, flat cap and a thick stem.
Loverens Trail is a forager's delight.

The image depicts a serene natural scene featuring a calm body of water, possibly a river or lake, surrounded by lush greenery. The water reflects the sky and trees, creating a mirror-like effect. Large rocks are visible near the surface of the water. The sky is partly cloudy.
